Advent Calendar for this Christmas.

Image
At this age, Big Bro L is starting to have a little knowledge in reading calendar and he knows about occasions like Christmas, New Year and birthdays(of course). He has been anticipating for Christmas very much because, ever since 2 or 3  months back, we told him he's not going to receive any more presents until Christmas. So he has been talking about December and whenever we pass by a toy department after that, he is always "shortlisting" his presents.  To inject more excitement and mood to this coming Christmas, we made an advent calendar. Search through the Internet for ideas and had them pasted on walls with washi tape. However, they kept dropping whenever the wind blows, so in the end, we have our advent calendar like this. All ideas taken through Google. And as usual, we took ideas that can utilize ready materials at home and some new ones if necessary.  All were from DAISO! We also asked around for ideas to fill the calendars. We d...

A small but pretty effort.

Image
These days, time spent at home has been so precious that I use them mostly with my kids. When lights off, after they fell asleep, there are only that much of the things I could do with the helper sleeping in the other room.  Last Sunday, with two kids playing among themselves, I decluttered the kids wardrobe. With RZ's clothes piling, we bought IKEA's storage box for better assortments. In order to help helper better arrange them and my mum to look for them at the correct place, I took a little time off this morning to do some snipping. It came into my mind just last night, it took about at most 15min, and did not cost me additional. Materials and methods are as follow:- 1.a piece of paper for printing the words 2.a pair of scissors for cutting the print out and snipping of the tapes. (i used one with pattern so I do not even have to be so precise in making edges straight and yet nice.) 3.masking tape with design (mine's a daiso) or washi tape as the base...

Morning Routine Chart for 4 Years Old

Image
Ever I read from articles online that 4 years old kids are sucker for routine. That made me decided to make routine charts. My sentiments tell me routines are very important, so they are not confused. It is not easy to have a fix one at home because of our irregular working hours but I know I have to start from somewhere. Thus, I made a simple one, using his photos thinking that he can relate better.  It sparked a little friendly debate in one of my whatsapp groupchats with a group of good friends. One of them felt this is military, and thought they should understand it eventually. I thought I was the least military style parents in town! As I explained how it helps me to make my morning rush so much smoother, then it also made me realize, what is there for him to understand? There is no complication here at all, isn't it? It's like you give them puzzle, they have difficult fixing it at the beginning. As you leave them alone to play with it more often, they start to be...

December 2012.

Image
The week has been good and bad. The bad is Lucas started to have high fever that went up to as high as 40.2 degrees celsius from last Sunday and it did not go away till we decided to send him to the hospital on Wednesday. The pediatrician was quick to diagnose him with pneumonia and was confirmed with a blood and x-ray. He has to be warded for 6 days since then. The hubby and I have been rotating shifts to keep the boy accompany. He has been brave so far with needles poking and very cooperative with the nurses and doctor. A little grouchy at times, which can be understood. Getting sick of the hotel room, which he really thought he was on a holiday, and crying to go home everyday. His condition has improved alot. Hopefully he can be discharged earlier. However, this December was still a great one. We attended a few parties and he got to play with all his friends. So glad for that.  Not only the children, the adults were in joy to see so many presents.  Anothe...

Mad Rush Project

Image
I am not hard core when it comes to scrapbooking. It was only once in a blue moon that I will pass by a scrapbook shop and make little purchase of something that caught my eyes. Most of the times, I was quite satisfied with craft stuffs from Daiso. It's pretty bad because I do not really use them. So when the birthday of the girls were coming up, I volunteered to make cards, so that these stuffs can be utilised again! Isn't it the most appropriate reason? Having said that, I was not impulsive in getting craft tools or materials. Some papers and stick ons were from flying days. Some were given to me by my aunt when she bought them as product shoots props. Some were printed online. Some were during promotion when 1 paper is only for $1 (usu. seasonal theme), 30% storewide, etc. This June and July was the birthday of another 2 gorgeous. I did not have an inspiration. Just worked on it base on random ideas and because time was running out as I only began the day before the...

Book for the little man.

Image
I have stopped making flashcards for awhile. At current stage, he cannot sit still and I did not catch up to make newer ones. I am still packed with stock cards, papers and etc, which I only used them when needed. The idea just came out of the blue that I can make books with pictures and simple sentences.  I printed most images on papers, pasted them onto stock cards and handwritten the sentences (hopefully i can write straighter line if there is a next one). I was not so sure what to do with the cover page, perhaps a little scrapping could be fun but my creative juice is just that for now. The blue polka dots background was downloaded free from here . The only thing that was purchased was the silver book ring. This book covers mostly actions and all sentences go like this, "Lucas is {action}". Clapping is probably the first action that he did.

Off Day: With lunching out, indoor play and decluttering.

Image
It was yet another pleasant non-working day. Especially chirpy in the morning. Breakfast was always tastier on these days because there was more time to prepare a nutritional breakfast. Exploring my bowl of salad.  More scooping in action. This time into the funnel. We spent lunch with hubby's friend and thereafter brought him to SingKids for some play time. Love for balls... After the much detested putting-him-to-nap, I did some decluttering. This shoebox has been a great storage tool, except the cover that was always taking space. Today, I decided to snip it away and use it as a book stand. Like finally, I can see the corner of the desk. Recently, I stumbled on this blog- The Imaginaion Tree  through Pinterest, which I really enjoyed. I especially like their Meesy and Sensory Play. I can't wait to get messy with Lucas soon!

The Colorful 3 Days!

Image
Last weekend was awesome! Even though, they were simple, cosy and lazy. I am feeling happy just from the thought of it. Most importantly, they would not have been so great without the beautiful people.  Be it the catching up during the wedding on Saturday night or the gathering with the favorite girls for Yen's 30th on the great weather Sunday, I am thankful for the amazing company and time spent together.  Also, to thanks my parents who help to look after my son so that I can have some time for myself and for us on Monday. We had a simple pre-Valentine's dinner prepared by the hubby- the chicken rice he had talked about for the past 9 years. Later, we drove down to Marine Bay Sands for some window shopping, then sat down for coffee and cake. These events was made like a prep before the busiest weeks in February is going to begin. Let's embrace for more fun-loving days in March! :) I was toying with ideas of a flower bouquet using craft stamps, which I did...

Self-managed.

Image
I have not been in my best mood and I am sure you learnt about it from my previous posts. Took some time off to manage myself and realised that I may have been very grumpy to becoming very bothered by others grumbles. Since I choose not wanting to share my grumps, the time off to manage my emotion was greatly needed and strongly felt the need of getting out of it.  Whether or not, life goes on. What took my mind away this time was doing some paper cutting for an activity, which I would like to introduce to Lucas tomorrow.  I ever declared I hated art and craft . So please pardon my drawing. Got an idea already? Yes, it is from the internet again. I used the piece of sponge stamp art work , which he did it at home, to cut them into shapes of clothes. It's an off day for me tomorrow. May it be a fruitful one. Goodnight peeps!

Getting things into place.

Image
Nearly 2 weeks have zoomed passed for 2012. There has been alot of spring cleaning, organising and traveling for us. Hubby was sick. Lucas has started school, twice a week. Once, I had a random thought while I was on the road but because I do not have the habit of jotting them down, I vaguely remembered.  When time is concerned, I realised I cannot be doing so many things at one time, therefore I must do less.  (wahaha) When monetary is concerned, there is a need to ensure my expenses is in proportion with the income now. When relationship is concerned, I need to master the skill of "one ear in, the other out"  When VB girls are concerned, we need more mahjong sessions!  They inadvertently sounded like the resolutions for the year when I have stopped making resolutions for past few years.  Like I have mentioned, Lucas started to go to playgroup. My main intention is for him to have fun and the opportunity to socialise. He cried and did not wan...

Somewhat I enjoyed my off days like such...

Image
This is one of the busiest period of the whole year for everyone I believe. Work gets more exciting until the Christmas bell rings. It could also be age and the addition to my life, staying up late is not an easy task anymore. I used to curse and swear that I could not sleep till it was near dawn. Now, I wish I could have more energy till dawn. Everyday is exhausting, however, we seemed to have get used to it naturally.  Thus, I decided, that we should just stay in on this off day of ours. We took our time to get up from bed, wash up and have breakfast. Morning routine is usual just less haste. I made it a point to prepare lunch for 3 which I have been longing to. Mushroom Risotto with Korean Panko, a version without cream for the toddler. Well, but it does not really matter since it's a family day! The recipe can be found here . And, we had a great game together. I called it "The Touch Game". It was rather impromptu because we were getting bored. It began whe...

Parenting.Big One Preparation

Image
I have been relying on my parents and still very much. They have been helping me to pick up Lucas from his 奶奶's house when hubby is not in town, so I do not have to make another round to pick him after work. It also means, I can go home right away and do not have the fear of him dozing off in the car and being waken up when alighting, thus becoming active again! Because my father drives a lorry, he gets to have a "nicer" view and with my mum to keep him alert. One chore off my list, a happy chore added onto their list. I really do not know how long this is going to last. Sometimes, I wonder what if my father does not have a lorry. I have become very dependent on them. While I let my mind run wild, I almost forgot that Lucas will grow up one fine day. Perhaps, I should just treasure and feel blessed. 10 more days and Lucas is officially a toddler. Omg! I am already a mother for one good year. Other than the mother instinct and my figure, I think I did not really change...

More Flashcards

Finally, another 2 sets of DIY flashcards after the first .

DIY Xmas Gift

Image
For the past few nights, I took some time to wrap a few gifts on each night.  Tonight, I was making my first Xmas gift for Lucas- Alphabets Flashcards! While I was googling around, I came across a blog of a mummy sharing her printable templates of flashcards she designed by herself. And, I decided to make him one on this Xmas since he already has enough people to buy him toys and clothes. Then, I found this Alphabets Flashcard template from here . There are also many ways of doing it and I think I have picked one of the most economical method. TaDah! All I did was print out the templates, cut into an equal size and paste it on plain cards we bought from Popular bookstore for less than $2, in pack of 50. I have a paper cutter at home that's meant for work. It saves my cutting job by alot! I hate the pasting part and almost gave up. I have the intention to wrap it in plastic wrappers to protect it from crushed by Lucas or him putting them into his mouth. Now, I am ...
